Camping

PACK 30 CAMPING EQUIPMENT: Pack 30 is blessed with an amazing inventory of camping equipment. Much of this equipment was donated to the pack by a veteran scouter family- The Gormans from Saint Louis MO. Due to that generous donation, our pack has a camping trailer, stocked with a comprehensive inventory- including complex mess tent (hand made chuck boxes), portable tables, stoves, lanterns, tents, chairs, cots and more. Typically a scout only need bring himself and a sleeping bag to a camping event. (Adults must bring their own tent/gear).

Camping in the Courtyard: Typically every other month (except in winter) we have family camping events in the courtyard of the church. These are overnight events (Fri-Sat). They are usually free or with a reduced grub fee as scouts arrive after dinner at home on Friday. We have a fireside snack- then a full breakfast in the morning. Most times the pack works in service hours for the charter organization by cleaning up the grounds (trash/etc). Camping in the Courtyard is a family camp event- mostly needing a family member with the scout. Some special circumstances may allow more than a one-to-one arrangement. Speak to a leader to talk about your individual situation.

A signed permission slip and up to date health form is needed. The Pack does not award patches for these overnight events, however, most scouts are able to work on requirements toward their rank or electives.

Council or District Camping events: These events are usually Friday through Sunday.  Most of the events with the district or council require registration fees (which pay for site costs, insurance and patches).  The Pack charges a per person grub fee ($10) for these events to pay for the 4-5 meals covered in the weekend and the other various costs we incur for supplies. We work very hard to keep costs to a minimum so that boys may take advantage of all opportunities. Typically we try to hold fundraising events- like car washes- so that boys can earn money toward their grub fees for these events.

The type of camping typically scheduled during the year includes:
WeBeLos (Grades 4-5 only) Parents usually not needed at events unless specified by Pack: Thanksgiving in the Woods (held in Oct), WeBeLo REE (usually the first weekend in Nov)
All Ranks (Grades 1-5): Parents typically needed to attend with grades 1-3.: Cub-o-Ree (held in the spring) and Family Camp (can be anytime)

A signed permission slip and up to date health form is needed.

Usually siblings are not allowed at these events because of insurance requirements.Siblings and other family members are allowed at Camping in the Courtyard events.
